This special and experimental mashbill is a blend of both 3-Grain and 4-Grain blends, and was dubbed the “chocolate cherry” blend, and then finished for over 6 months in a VDN (Vino de Naranja Orange Wine) barrel from the Andaluica territory of Spain.
This is an lovely Fall type of dessert dram with loads of sweet orange, cinnamon, and subtle baking spices. It’s a wonderful combination that should definitely be enjoyed on a cool autumn evening sitting by a warm fire
and shared with friends.
Aroma: Beautiful aromas of orange peels with soft and sweet notes of fruit, oak, cinnamon, and red apples stewed in mulling spices. Lovely hints of clove, candy corn and cinnamon spice with caramel drizzle that gives way to some faint milk chocolate and even more oranges on the nose.
Taste: The first taste of this brings a wonderful bright citrus with cinnamon spices that has a very viscous and warm mouthfeel. This is surrounded mid-way by some more lovely orange zest, vanilla, and an oak spice with almost faint cherry cobbler throughout the middle. This gives way to something almost like cinnamon rolls covered in icing that’s even more lovely and delectable. This has a very comforting warmth that feels like you’re supposed to be sitting outside watching the colors change on a cool fall evening with a pour in hand.
Finish: The finish is long, warm, and comforting with wonderful, sweet oranges, baking spices and vanilla. The hug lingers nicely, and the warm cinnamon spice, oranges, caramels, and honey comes through at the end. What a special, sweet, and slightly spicy fall dram this is!
